Reasons to go Organic

A lot of you may ask is there really a difference between organic and non Organic foods. I find myself also curious as the reality is nobody knows how honest a package can genuinely be. In theory organic foods promote a much healthier and unharmed product but again this is just what we are told. I am of the belief that Organic products are healthier because they do not use Chemicals and pesticides , the reason i believe this is because you will always see a variety of shapes and sizes with organic foods where as you're general fruits and veg all look like perfect clones.
Obviously Organic foods come at a higher price but i think if people make a conscience decision to even just include SOME organic foods in their weekly diet then that is an improvement. I reckon the cost of organic food is higher purely because more people buy the cheaper versions , if we all made a conscience decision to shop Organic the cost eventually might come down. I like to include organic in my shopping basket as much as possible here are some reasons you should too !!

- Organic food has more nutrients! Studies have shown that organic food has higher levels of nutrients than conventionally grown produce such as vitamin C, and many minerals including calcium, magnesium, iron and chromium.

- Organic food has been tried and tested for generations. It has been estimated that genetically-modified food makes up 80% of the average person’s food consumption. Remember, genetic modification of food is still experimental

- Eating organic may reduce your risk of getting cancer. The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) states that 90% of fungicides, 60% of herbicides and 30 percent of insecticides can potentially cause cancer. Eating organically grown foods is the only way to avoid the cocktail of chemical poisons present in commercially grown food. The National academy of science reports 90% of chemicals applied to foods have not been tested for long term health effects.

- Organic food meets strict standards that are your assurance that it is healthy and safe to eat.

- Biodiversity is increased with the use of better crops, and by avoiding killing or harming insects and wildlife that is not a threat to the crop

- You will dramatically reduce the amount of pesticide residue you personally ingest on a daily basis.

- You are supporting local and small businesses
